Sensational Southern and hard rock artists Gregg Allman and ZZ Top are bringing their signature sounds to the Riverside Theater!
ZZ Top is rock band formed in Houston in 1969 by guitarist and lead vocalist Billy Gibbons, organist Lanier Greig, drummer Dan Mitchell. Billy got the idea for the band’s name from the posters that lined their apartment wall. He noticed how many musicians used initials in their names. He thought of combining B.B. King and Z.Z. Hill into Z.Z King but found it too similar to B.B. King. He then thought that a king goes on the top which brought him to ZZ Top. Since the release of their 1971 debut album, they’ve become renowned for their strong blues roots and funny lyrical themes that are peppered with double entendres and innuendo. Though the band’s musical style began with blues-inspired rock, it evolved over the years to include new wave, punk and dance rock, with heavy use of synthesizers. They’ve had a stellar career with 15 studio albums, 3 live albums, 6 compilation albums, 42 singles, and their global album sales exceed $50 million. In 2004, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and their technical music mastery has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike.
