Widespread Panic, Georgia’s sensational southern and blues rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Riverside Theater!
The band was formed in 1986 when John Bell (guitar, vocals) and Michael Houser (guitar) invited friends Todd Nance (drums) and Dave Schools (bass) to play for a charity event in Athens (Georgia). It was their first show as Widespread Panic (a name inspired by Michael’s frequent panic attacks). Their musical style draws from southern rock, blues-rock, progressive rock, funk and hard rock genres and they’re frequently compared to the Greatful Dead and Phish. The band’s line-up has changed over the years with only John and David as constant members and they’re now joined by drummer Duane Trucks, percussionist Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz, keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann, and guitarist Jimmy Herring. They’ve had a stellar career with 12 studio albums, 7 live albums, 1 compilation album, 5 archive albums, and to date have sold over 3 million records.
