Pepe Aguilar (birth name Jose Antonio Aguilar) was born in San Antonio in 1968 and is a singer, songwriter, and actor. Born to parents who were already established in show business (his dad is renowned singer Antonio Aguilar and his mom, legendary actress Flor Silvestre), he began his musical journey at the age of 3 and he went on to release his debut album (Pepe Aguilar Con Tambora) in 1989. His musical style falls under the genres Ranchera (a style of traditional Mexican music that dates before the years of the Mexican Revolution) and Mariachi (a style that originated in 18th century Western Mexico and began to take on national prominence in the first half of the 20th century, with its promotion at presidential inaugurations and on the radio in the 1920s). He’s had a stellar career with 27 studio albums, 2 extended plays, and he’s received many accolades including 4 Grammy Awards (for Best Regional Mexican Music Album and 3 for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album) and 4 Latin Grammy Awards (for Best Ranchero Album). He’s also been nominated for another Grammy Award in the Best Regional Mexican Music Album (including Tejano) category.
