David Sedaris, New York’s sensational multi talented spoken word artist is bringing his signature show to the Riverside Theater!
David Raymond Sedaris was born in Binghamton (New York) in 1956) and he’s a humorist, comedian, author, and radio contributor. He took an interest in visual and performance art in his teens and went on to School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He graduated in 1987 and while working odd jobs, was discovered at a Chicago club by Ira Glass (renowned public radio personality and the host and producer of the radio and television show This American Life). Ira asked him to appear on his weekly local program (The Wild Room) and it launched his career. He said in an interview, “I owe everything to Ira ... My life just changed completely, like someone waved a magic wand.” His success on the program led to him making his debut on National Public Radio by reading an essay (titled SantaLand Diaries) about his purported experiences as an elf at Macy's department store during Christmas in New York. The essay brought him mainstream recognition with The New York Times calling it a “a minor phenomenon.” He went on to have a stellar career with many stories, essays, articles, and audio recordings.
